3STOREY HOUSE IN KIFISSIA (Papastergiou Residence) Kifissia, Athens, Greece 2011
It is more than commonplace the notion that the
form incorporates and retains the idea which created it. Due to a certain process, to the “hardness” and
resistance of the “material” used, the form attains, maybe by chance or inevitably, it’s characteristic, unique existence.
Not being certain for such a chance, in the end of a complicated process, the “ThreeStoreyResidentialSingleFamilyBuilding”,
has to obey to the obligatory five meter retreat, caused by the three streets
that surround the plot. Consequently it has to attach to the south border,
losing the south elevation. Nevertheless this first obligation, together with a
restriction in high, gives to the house the characteristic appearance of a peculiarly pentagonal cube with a
tilled roof.The
house in the first floor has an L chapped area of secondary spaces (entrance,
staircase, elevator, and kitchen), surrounding the internal cube of the two
storey high living room to witch, in a higher level, sees the owner’s study
room. In the third floor we find the sleeping rooms, together with two
bathrooms, the one being private in the parents’ bedroom. The wooden roof, in
this floor, is exposed to the eye. This composes an interesting ambiance, due
to the juxtaposition of the plan and the structurally more strict construction of the roof.Form
safeguards the idea that brought it to existence. Due to coincidental and
external reasons, creative though, it becomes what it is: The Form.
