1. History and Context
The building in question is inserted in a municipal complex being their "exploration" delivered to the village of Cortes. This area is called Cellar Space (ex. Cooperative winery of Cortes) who performs a number of local activities, including "Weekly Market".
We inted to complete the revitalization of existing tunnels, improve the acoustic through an inner coating and extending the construction of the technical necessary for the proper operation of the restaurant. These expansions arise on the ground in a non-evasive form, using prefabricated box structure.
In order to give some advantage to the vacant buildings in this space, will be integrated in this intervention public toilets and accessible not only to support the esplanade of 3MARIAS but also to support the cultural activities carried out in the Cellar Space. This enhancement of the building stock in the park improved the conditions for mobility and creates a anchor space in the village.
2. Concept
The draft defines three distinct areas:
- Public Area (dining room | WC)
- Service Zone
- Storage Zone and Preparation
The consciousness of place with all its influences served as the main orientation of the project, referring to a design conception that favors the rural site. The expansion fits to the existing building and to physical environment (discrete and quiet) with which avoids interfering. The relationship established between architecture and the topographic field where it implants reinforces the importance of nature in space and emphasizes the influence of the concept.
The waterfront of the River Lis is the perfect framework, having a view and an enviable environment. It is intended for recovery and urban regeneration of the property, passing it the vacant building for social meeting point and leisure center, a valuing of the urban areas of excellence of the Cortes.
The permeability and the relationship between the square and the river are always safeguarded due different paths and trails created within and outside of the equipment, diversifying living spaces, creating different environments and enhancing the relationship between interior and exterior.
To fulfill the program as well as the minimum conditions laid down in regulation, was necessary to build a block of toilets (between 2 tunnels), getting the building with toilets separated by sex. We created a block like this (among the other two tunnels) which serves as main entrance to the restaurant and to the terrace connected to the river in the subsequent elevation.
Given the functional program supplied and geomorphological characteristics of the site, the renovated and expanded building assumes the following characteristics:
1. Total recovery of the existing building, leaving all
his transformation into the interior and
expanding only
the area of services| technique;
2. Interior sober, strong element which is the
exuberance of the form, being provided an
acoustic material for the coating;
3. Investment in establishing three different
environments, taking advantage of the position
of their own tunnels, offering three different
types of service: the Queen Mary is a markings
room and only works at weekend, Mary Elizabeth
will be the buffet room and Mary Emilia is the
chop-house;
4. Application of decorative elements in the ceiling,
defining positions for their furnishings
(at the 1st room -Queen Mary);
5. Bet of color in the furniture, which functions as
contrast to the dominant white environment;
6. Expansion of existing buildings, seeking the
alignment of the river, achieving a continuation
of pre-existing.
