2x3x5 is a project for a developer seeking to covert an existing walk-up 3-flat in the heart of Chicago’s Historic Wicker Park District into a condominium property with a off-street parking. The project spans 2 lots, 3 units and 5 floors. While negotiating the odd dimension of the site’s double-wide lot and stringent preservation restrictions, DAAM developed a design that affords each new unit private exterior space, a dedicated parking spot as well as a unique intervention of natural light which take the form of either enlarged bay window and a penthouse sky light. The design offers contemporary open floor plans nestled within a historically restored exterior envelope that remains an integral part of the local context and fabric of the district.
