We started with a modest one story over garage, single family home situated in the Noe Valley neighborhood of San Francisco. Our clients at the time had a toddler and wanted to expand and renovate their home to suit their growing family. During the life of the project they welcomed another baby and so the house grew along the way.

The garage floor was dug out at the rear into the hillside to create a family room and home office. Moving up through the three story open stair to the main level, the spaces were opened up and the ceiling raised to maximize the natural light and improve the connection to the new rear yard deck and rear yard garden.

At the new top floor two new bedrooms for the children were added with views to the rear yard and the unique common green space on their city block. At the front a master suite was designed with floor to ceiling windows and doors leading out to a roof deck, all which capture the downtown views of San Francisco.
