BUDGET
$500K - 1M
A residential project designed and built by Urban Operations. Located on a steep hillside, high above the Glendale Freeway in East Silver Lake, the home is a balance of formal exploration and material restraint. Designed to serve the “spec” real estate market, the project contains all of the traditional amenities desired by the market place, yet challenges the notions of traditional living through it’ response to the steep terrain. A small skyscraper, 2636 Corralitas Drive minimizes its site footprint, while maximizing the opportunities for programmatic manipulation. In this case, the domestic programs are configured in order to create a series of social zones within the house that do not share the traditional connections found in most “spec” projects. In addition, the home’s formal morphology is driven purely by the need to expand the square footage of the project as well as connect the inhabitants with the surrounding urban terrain.
