Working as YouthBuild Boston's LEED representative on the project, 26 Arbutus St achieved LEED Gold in the LEED for Homes Pilot Program. Next Phase Studios was the architecture firm on the project and YouthBuild Boston was the general contractor.The 2-family home was built for low-income first-time home owners. It has a number of eco-friendly features including the use of non-VOC paints and caulking, bamboo flooring, recycled carpet, Energy Star-rated appliances and windows, low-flow water fixtures, FSC-certified wood for interior framing, gypsum wallboard consisting of 95% pre-consumer and 5% post-consumer recycled content, and much more. The landscape included high-albedo permeable pavers in the driveway, local drought-tolerant plants, and a dry well in the backyard that collects excess rainwater from the site as well as from the roof.
