Building Democracy in Bhutan
< Context > - Bhutan
is a small landlocked country between India
and China.
It is currently going through an historic transformation from 100 years as
absolute monarchy to a constitutional democracy. A constitution was signed and
parliamentary election were held just last year.
- The country is closed physically as
well as metaphysically. It has strong censorship in public communication and prohibits
any criticisms to the government. 70% of houses has no electricity and much
less of them have TV and Internet.< Hear, See and Speak > - Democracy comes from people who have a right
to know. Democracy comes from people who have a right to speak. Individuals in Bhutan had to
be blind, deaf and dumb. They need a place to hear, see and speak the truth
freely. It should be open to the individuals and the outside world, and should
not be monitored and censored by the government. It would be representation of
each individuals and the horizontalism and transparency. It is going to
be a symbolic platform for beginning of democracy in Bhutan.
