"2 districts 12 stories" - a project-winner of the open international competition "Face of renovation." Announced by the Moscow Government in February 2021, the competition collected the best architectural concepts for housing development of renovation program. In total, the competition featured more than thirty sites located in different parts of Moscow.
Kashirins Architects project "2 districts 12 stories" presents solutions for the sites in southwestern part of Moscow, which includes two districts. The main challenge was to include new development in the current city environment. Public spaces of the streets became a connecting link for the new and existing. Unique themselves, they became the core for our concept. So we identified 12 "morphotypes-stories" for the development. Each of them responds to the individual character of the urban environment.
Stories
2 districts 12 stories: these are various stories about parks and water, industrial environment or historical background, about ecology and active lifestyle, about dialogue and relevance.
Here are some of them:
New Semenovskoye. Here we were inspired by the natural component and historical background. Once upon a time there was a village in this place. We brought it’s countryside spirit to the urban context.
Kakhovka City. It’s a city in the city, placed about a crossroad, on a crowded street. Here is a super-active street front with high-rise dominants, transparent ground floor and active retail.
The airy quarter. Pedestrian street heading to the apple garden. Image of the buildings is a reference to the palace of Queen Catherine II, which was never built and remained as an "air castle" in these lands. The arches fit the natural curve lines of the park.
The park quarter is about a street that faces the park, with small houses and separate towers, together forming micro-squares. There is even a fair with illumination beside the park. In that way we create an interesting environment with various scenarios for the citizens community.
Gate to Cheremushki. A kind of a welcoming building of the district, illuminating the main entrance to the district through Profsoyuznaya Street. Symmetrically located houses with monumental facades.
Facades
The facade design is unique for each "morphotype-story". The structure of our building skin includes various types of grids, variable solutions, but still related to each other. The general variety of grids creates a fractal structure close to natural. It was highly important for us to detail lower floors in the eye-level of human perception.
Our design is based on common construction technologies. As for materials, we mainly created nuance relations: we designed the palette of materials not only for the scale of a single building, but also for the scale of the urban-block to support diversity of the city front.
Urban environment
Our project is about exciting, lively urban spaces of a different scale. In a way, when people walk through the city and feel the individual character of the surrounding. So that there was a person self-identification in relation to a specific event, place and time. A stream of new associations comes, and the city, as a result, is filled with the personal emotions of people and comes alive. Finally, we create a sustainable living urban environment in which we want to live and spend our time.
