This project is a conversion of an original 1930's electricity substation set amid a street of a mixture of traditional residential properties. The substation was no longer used and the electricity board has replaced the old facility with a pre-formed kiosk which sits on the street frontage of the site. Our proposal has white GRP pods sitting upon the brickwork box, with the ground floor acting like a plinth. The existing brickwork has strong detailing typical of these well built 'municipal' buildings and this is being retained. Between the pods there is a glazed link to allow light into the heart of the building, internally we have created a simple house with open plan areas, an additional reception room and three bedrooms. The design incorporates renewable energy and solar systems.
