A twenty unit, five story apartment complex in Jersey City integrates a variety of linear design strategies to create a cohesive geometry between the interior and exterior of the building. The residential floor plans alternate, which is reflected on the façade by the black brick that ribbons through and around each floor and by the alternating recessed balconies. Black brick projections along the windows balance the horizontality of the design and unify the alterations in the plan. Light gauge metal framing provides a cost effective strategy for construction, allowing geometrically compelling design gestures that can be done within a low budget.
