The name Tribeca was coined by city planners in the 1960s to designate the TRIANGLE BELOW CANAL STREET. Originally farmland, Tribeca was commercialized in the 1850s, but then experienced urban decline well into the 1960s. Now, coveted residential lofts and restaurants have moved into the old warehouse and factories. The inimitable historic district stands shoulder to shoulder with ever emerging, innovative, new architectural feats, to create an unrepeatable neighborhood of dynamic local life.
Tribeca is a symbol of history embracing progress, a New York City legacy. On cobble-stoned Leonard Street, Architect Wayne Turett embraced this legacy in transforming derelict one-story garages into a contextually elegant 7 story residential building with an additional 2 floors for a triplex penthouse.
A 60-foot-wide façade of glowing windows and channel glass creates a unique, stunning visual effect along Leonard’s charming cobblestone-street sanctuary.
