This sidelined project, a victim of the past recession, was to add a seven story addition to a through-block, four- story historic structure. The lower floors were designated for commercial space or restaurants, with 13 spacious apartments above. The design provided for possible openings along the length of the building for a proposed through-block for a pedestrian paseo.
The design of the addition’s street elevation referenced the historic facade’s use of a “tectonic” expression; mid- (19th) century modern meets mid- (20th) century modern.
