The project for 99-101 rue Villiers de l’Isle Adam incorporates the urban fabric of a Parisian faubourg which is extremely mixed, on the eastern side of the hill of Menilmontant. The project involves the renovation of an existing building at no. 101, with a new extension that reconstructs the corner with the tiny rue Hélène Jacubowicz. The contemporary architectural design makes its mark with subtlety, highlighted by the rhythm of the openings and the preserved profile of the facade of number 101.
The recurring brickwork on the facades is a style characteristic of the neighborhood. The extension is deliberately refined in volume, while displaying some unique features: a horizontal skyline due to the rooftop terrace; R+3 on the rue Villiers de l’Isle Adam has a private terrace, creating an indent at that level; an overhang on the garden side provides a breathing space for the ground floor. Lastly, the two newly created openings in the existing gable provide the harmonization between the two buildings, which are now united.
