This fabulous dwelling stands in the middle of a gently narrowed and sloped parcel of land of exceptional natural beauty located in the bucolic countryside near Ibiza Town.
The house was conceived to function as family retreat for those who might choose an active social life so typical of the Ibizan lifestyle while respecting the privacy of the residents. As a result, a flexible and dynamic multiplicity of spaces was the key focus of this design.
The V-shaped house is composed of two main volumes articulated by a double-high atrium. The angle between them – exactly 10 degrees - is slightly changed to generate an intimate courtyard entrance on the Eastside. This entry pulls the landscape inwards toward the core of the house. The reveal of the oversized floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors can be opened completely to create dynamic and uninterrupted space that flows indoors from the pool area to the rear pine tree forest.
The North block accommodates the kitchen, dining and living areas in the lower floor in an open-plan approach without disruptions while keeping the infinite swimming pool deck in sight. A large circular skylight over the living area creates the feeling of being gently showered from the dappled rays of sunlight that dance across the rooms. The master bedroom makes use of an abundance of natural light as well throughout the en-suite bathroom which features its own dressing room and private balcony overlooking the pool terrace.
The South block is comprised of 4 bedrooms and one central balcony. This area provides the most intimate and secluded retreat. This façade opens up to the forest to let in the light as it provides amazing perspectives of the surrounding native landscape.
A copper covered void that contrasts with the white volumes of the main building is the node of the house. The roof opens up to the internal space by use of sliding panels that when opened, flood the spaces below with dramatic lighting effect. Two bridges link the North and South wings spanning this hybrid area while a weightless sculptural staircase made of perforated metal screens connect both levels.
