Positioned on a prominent corner in the Sydney CBD with direct views into the foyer when entering and exiting the harbour bridge, the challenge for this building refurbishment was to create an address for a site that had a unique identity and reposition the building in the market to attract and retain tenants. The vision for the project is to integrate a concierge service as well as food offerings that provides tenants with an A-grade building service. Also included was to upgrade the end-of-trip facilities from their existing poor condition to be more aligned with A-grade offerings in the Sydney CBD.
The design included a distinct and strong linear feature wall that was visible from all angles through the glazed façade with a mirrored backing to reflect the view, which was a strategic gesture to open up the entrance of the lobby.
The café facilities were upgraded to be more aligned with contemporary commercial city offerings, to not only cater for the tenants but also attract the public to the destination cafe.
End-of-trip facilities were upgraded to be bright and fresh using reflective materials to compensate for the lack of daylight. A solution that allowed the space to feel far more spacious that its original design. Also designed was an area for bike storage and a maintenance station offering tenants ease of use.
Overall, WMK delivered a cost-effective yet design focussed solution transforming a tired lobby into a distinct address. In addition to attracting and retaining quality tenants, the refurbishment generates income for the building owner and adds value to the underlying building asset as a whole.
The new café activates the foyer space, providing tenants with a stylish meeting and alternative working environment and creates a vibrant new destination in the Sydney CBD.
