The client is a product designer & inventor by
training and possesses an ability to think conceptually outside the box.
From the beginning it was clear that his interests & desires were to design
a home from the ground up with no preconceived direction in regards to form or
style. Everything was to be fresh and predicated upon his contemporary
lifestyle and functional needs as opposed to traditional notions &
styles. He had an interest in seeing an expressing of structural framing
system and taking advantage of the topography & southeast view in the rear
yard.
This home is located at the end of a cul-de-sac in
a suburban subdivision with primarily conservative, traditional homes. By
designing a very low sloped roof, the overall mass and profile was kept to a
scale proportionate to the neighborhood. Stone, stucco & glass were
chosen as the exterior materials with colors that blend with the landscaping.
