Founded in 1995, Nanjing W2 Architecture Design Firm was formerly known as Nanjing Damutu Architecture Consulting Ltd. We hold the Class A Architecture Design Certificate, the Class A Architecture Consulting Certificate, and the Class A Interior Design Certificate issue from the Ministry of Construction, and our projects have won various design awards at the national level. Over the past fifteen years, W2 has been dedicated to the concept design and research of complex architecture and urban planning. We currently employ over twenty design professionals. Mr. Degang Wang acquired a Master in Architecture from Nanjing Southeast University in the ‘80s. He later served as professor and chief architect in the Architectural Design & Research Institute of Southeast University and chief architect of Pan China Design Ltd, Nanjing Office. He founded W2 Architects in 1995.As his practice steadily made progress, he decided to return to school in pursuit of further education, in order to take the understanding he acquired through years of experience to a new level. At Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom, Mr. Wang studied under his mentor, Dr. Paul Oliver (editor of the four-volume Encyclopedia of Vernacular Architecture of the World), and acquired the world’s first Master’s degree in International Studies in Vernacular Architecture in 1998. During his studies in England, he completed detailed yet comprehensive research into the formation, tradition and history of vernacular architecture across the world, particularly in Europe. The unique insights he acquired from these studies have been incorporated and displayed in his designs. He is more interested in anthropology research and humanities rather than architectural design itself.
