URBIO was awarded the “Innovator of the Year 2012” by the Swedish Association of Architects on the Architecture Gala 2012-11-16. “URBIO is the office that inject ideas about the sustainable city”.
URBIO was formed in 2010 by landscape architect Mattias Gustafsson. Since then the office has expanded with its assignments and is now consisting of nine full-time landscape architects. The projects stretch throughout Sweden as well as a few international locations.
Besides URBIO’s strive to create interesting and well-functioning outdoor environments, there is a strong focus on integrating biophilic design into this process and thereby influence the built environment.
The goal is to create urban environments where the quality of life is higher, health and wellbeing among the citizens strengthened and climate goals achieved. To create this environment, natural systems are incorporated into the manmade landscape of the cities, elevating the ecological relationships instead of neglecting them and bringing nature closer to the people living in the cities.
We at URBIO wish to contribute to the debate on sustainable urban planning by developing conceptual projects and a toolbox of solutions for experiential, interactive interventions that push the boundaries for what is possible when integrating nature into cities.
