Thomas Daniell Architects is located in Kyoto, Japan. The firm provides comprehensive range of architectural services, ranging from design consultation to project management. Our work includes projects of every scale, specializing in residential design, including the renovation of traditional houses.Principal Tom Daniell was born in Wellington, New Zealand. He has lived and worked in a variety of countries, and has been based in Kyoto for over a decade. From 1995-2005, he was a core member of the Kyoto architecture practice FOBA and its subsidiary FOB Homes. From 1998-1999, he was assistant leader of the Uji City Urban Design Advisory Committee.He holds a Bachelor of Architecture with honors from the Victoria University School of Architecture, a Master of Engineering from the Kyoto University Graduate School of Engineering, and is currently an invited PhD candidate at RMIT. He is a Lecturer at Kyoto University and at Seika University, a Visiting Fellow at the Spatial Information Architecture Lab in Melbourne, and is a frequent guest speaker and juror at universities throughout the world.He has assisted in the curation of a number of international architecture exhibitions, and his own design work has been awarded and exhibited internationally. He publishes widely on themes related to contemporary art and architecture, particularly in the Japanese context, and has been a keynote speaker at various international symposiums. He is editorial consultant to Archis/Volume magazine, contributing editor to Mark magazine, chief architecture critic for the Artscape web journal, and was previously on the editorial board of the Architectural Institute of Japan Journal.
