super-interesting! is a multidisciplinary architecture, design, and
sustainability consulting practice based in Brooklyn, New York.
Formed by partners Kian Goh, AIA, LEED AP, and
John Bruce in 2005, super-interesting!
operates at the intersection of architecture, business, and sustainability. super-interesting! works on forming environments – designing
buildings, interiors, products, landscapes – and informing them – creating strategies to address on-going day-to-day
and long-term needs and objectives for businesses and non-profits. The firm’s
projects focus on understanding site and context, processes and systems,
program and behavior.super-interesting! recently completed the Red Hook Initiative Community Center,
a green urban retrofit project in Brooklyn. The Red Hook Initiative confronts
intergenerational poverty by providing health and education workshops and
employment to residents of the Red Hook Houses, the largest New York City
Housing Authority (NYCHA) project in Brookyn. super-interesting!’s design emphasizes flexible shared spaces,
daylighting, low-impact materials, energy efficiency, and community
participation, serving as an example of affordable green design and a project
for community sustainability. A second phase for summer 2010 involves a planted
green wall, green roof, photovoltaic panels, and a community-led mural.
Current projects include offices for
the Audre Lorde Project, residential hall renovations at Barnard College, a house in upstate New York, a green roof project in Brooklyn, and
sustainability consulting for Icestone, a recycled glass surfaces company. The
firm's entry titled "Engaging Ecology - Connecting Community" won the
fourth place prize in the Newark Visitor Center international design competition
sponsored by AIA Newark-Suburban.super-interesting! is a certified minority and woman-owned business
(M/WBE) in New York State, New York City and New Jersey. The office includes
LEED accredited professionals with expertise in green building, and
professional architects licensed in New York and New Jersey.
