At Studio | Khew + Cornelius, we appreciate the authentic, find enjoyment in the quirky, and strive for the small batch. We do this not in a nostalgic way, but rather as a means of celebrating differences both subtle and grand. We believe these differences provide a way of understanding and reconsidering the unique conditions and experiences that shape our built environment. As a design practice, we follow this outlook in pursuit of the novel, not as a contrarian edict, but as a way of making our craft genuine for our clients and ourselves. Each project, small or large, is its own batch of architectural goodness. We are in the business of making and this philosophy fundamentally drives our process. Material innovation combined with pragmatic sensibility and a sincere pursuit of a novel digital craftsmanship form the foundation of all of our projects. From there, each of our projects provides its own healthy dose of inspiration in the form of its own peculiarities. As such, our work forms an intersection between design innovation and professional practice. By coupling the latest design technology with a sophisticated hands-on approach, our process is complex, but our product is clean. We enjoy rolling up our sleeves and getting our hands dirty. We relish the opportunity to work at a variety of scales as our interest in physical and digital craft allows for a fluid and informed transition between product and building design. Similarly, our experience spans a wide range of projects including product design, gallery installation, single and multi-family residential, cultural institutions, and high-rise. We offer a full range of design services on any project, big or small. Ongoing projects include storefront design in Manhattan, multiple furniture design projects, and ongoing residential projects in the Pacific Northwest and Singapore. Studio Khew Cornelius is led by two principles, Yu Nong Khew and Alexander Cornelius and sustains an international practice with offices in Brooklyn and Singapore. Their work has been published in Abitare, Architectural Review, and PLAT Journal, exhibited internationally, and recognized by a host of design institutions including SCI-Arc and MIT. In 2010, they were named by Architectural Review as one of 10 emerging design voices from around the world. Ms. Khew’s work also received the top prize for AIA-LA’s 2x8 Verge award as part of the Mobius LA 2010 program.
