Stephen Roberts is an Australian designer based in New York. With twenty five years international design experience including five years as a founding member of the registered architecture firm D4Design in Sydney, followed by four years as Director of Store Design, Worldwide, for Prescriptives in New York, the firm of Stephen Roberts inc. brings together a wealth of experience to each project. Design work over this period include architectural design, furniture, lighting and industrial design, restaurants, hotels, retail, theater and costume design, and graphics. First bought to the U.S in 1992 on an Artist's Development Grant from the Australian government, Roberts then stayed after being offered a position running retail design worldwide out of New York, leading to over one hundred projects a year all over American in cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Dallas and Chicago and internationally in England, Japan, Singapore, Spain, Italy and Canada and which included lighting and furniture design. Roberts’s work has been published internationally over many years and with D4, is the focus of a book on twenty years of the award-winning restaurant ‘Rockpool’. ‘Regents Court’, a small boutique hotel designed by D4, has also been singled out as one of the 25 best designer hotels in the world by 'Ambiente', the German architectural magazine, and lauded by 'British Vogue', 'Tatler' and 'Wallpaper' magazines and featured in the book 'Hip Hotels'. Recent work from Stephen Roberts includes projects featured in 'The New York Times Magazine' and 'The Times Home Section', 'Arena Homme Plus', 'Interior Design', 'Surface', 'Wallpaper', 'Hampton’s Magazine', 'Belle', and 'Dwell' and published in many books. Roberts has also made appearances on Ultraspace, a new television program highlighting the best in American living.
