Founded in 2012, Richaven Architecture & Preservation offers over 30 years’ experience in architecture, project management, and construction management, specializing in technical issues and focused on future-proofing the built environment. Our experience is rooted in the synergistic combination of professional practice on both the owner and design team sides of projects, on-site experience in construction management, volunteer service, and mentoring the next generation of architects. Richaven is a certified Washington Small Business Enterprise (SBE) and King County Small Contractor Services (SCS) business.
Richaven Principal, Brian Rich, has completed over 179 projects, including 117 renovations of existing buildings and 63 designated or eligible landmarks, garnering multiple personal and project awards. Brian is also a licensed drone pilot with over 200 sorties without incident, providing aerial project documentation and assessment for historic building projects.
Brian earned his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame, and completed his master’s degree in Architecture and Certificate in Historic Preservation at the UW.
Brian is Co-Chair of the APT Seattle 2023 conference, president of the Northwest chapter of the APT, 16-year member of the Washington State Heritage Barn Advisory Committee and serves on the Redmond Landmarks Commission. Past activities include over 4 years as the FinCap Committee Co-Chair and Board Member at the historic University Heights Community Center, 9 years on the King County Landmarks Commission as Commission Chair and Design Committee Chair. Brian is an inaugural member of the UW Alumni Association’s GOLD Council and an inaugural recipient of the UW Husky 100 Award.
Brian is the creator of the Principles of Future-Proofing which focus on preserving historic character while balancing the need to adapt old buildings for modern uses.
