Plant-in City is an art installation using plants to echo nature t the concrete junglePlant-in City is an art installation
introducing an architecture for plants that translates their environmental data
into the sound of an imaginary wilderness in a gallery space in New York
City.
The installation turns the space into
a city where plants populate the buildings. These structures consist of stackable
modular frames with built-in sensors activated by sun exposure, soil moisture,
humidity, temperature, and other natural rhythms. Throughout the day and night the
sensors translate this environmental data into sounds and lighting.
Inspired by the shape of the city and
in particular the complex layering of infrastructure that supports it, the
artists seek to recreate nature in a box.
The creators are currently holding a fundraiser
on Kickstarter over the next 40 days to produce the large-scale installation in
a gallery space (location TBC).

About the Artists
We are a group of New York City-based
architects, designers, and developers with a vision to establish a new design
practice focused on supporting our relationship with plants through flexible,
open-source architecture, media, and technology solutions.
We are a joint collaboration between
*HB* Collaborative and Med44.
*HB* Collaborative is four-year-old
design/build studio based in New York City. We work on retail, restaurant,
interior, and furniture design as well as on design for art installations.
Med44 is an
award-winning ten-year-old media architecture studio focused on art
installations, the blending of physical and digital experiences, as well as
commercial interaction design for web, mobile, and environments.
