THE PRACTICE
Cédric Petitdidier and Vincent Prioux founded Petitdidierprioux Architectes in 2004. With more than forty staff and two offices in Paris and Lyon, PPX has completed more than forty projects, with just as many currently in development and in construction. Through its work, PPX has garnered expertise in residential housing, consistently striving for social mixing and ‘pleasurable density’ in an effort to reconcile individual and
collective housing, including for high-rise buildings. Each project delivers thoughtful consideration of typological variations and the notion of comfort, through particular attention to context, orientation, materials and energy use.
OUR APPROACH
PPX makes understanding any new
situation the starting point of its process, and approaches each project free of preconceptions, always with a fresh, yet seasoned perspective. This method requires examining every question raised through the prism of social, economic, theoretical and technical issues at play, and ensuring an innovative attitude within realistic constraints. This means that, from the drawing phase, the first preliminary sketches, to the very last details of construction, the project is open for discussion, both in form and substance, tested, and modelled in incremental steps. Each new design is considered individually, whether we are treading familiar paths or stepping into uncharted territory.
OUR WORK ABROAD
The practice has had the opportunity to partake in many international design competitions in Germany, Czech Republic, as well as Kuwait and Russia, and is currently developing several projects outside France. Our work has been recognised and honoured both in France and abroad: nominated for the 2009 Prix de la Première Œuvre awarded by Le Moniteur, winner of the 2010 Grand Prix de l’Architecture du Rhône, winner of the 2010 Europe 40 under 40 Award, winner of the 2013 International Property Awards, winner of the 2017 American Architecture Prize for Residential Architecture, and in 2022 PPX was named Best Residential Firm by the Architizer A+Awards.
