We believe design is a collaborative problem-solving art, fundamentally humanist in nature and involving the input of professionals from many related disciplines. Style, for us, evolves from the sensitive interplay of these concerns. Our online images run the gamut of projects from urban to rural, small to large. Some projects deal with archetypes for today’s needs, such as apartment and loft conversions, while others solve unique problems, like the computer reading room within the Jewish Museum, Berlin.During the thirty-year existence of our studio we have enjoyed exploring the relationships between site, building, space, and materials. We let the larger context of any project inform solutions for their parts and even their details; site conditions, for example, always help us shape a building’s footprint. And as might be inferred from our interest in details, we often design furniture for our interiors, especially when the spaces they occupy are eccentrically shaped or where there are special programmatic needs. Our office is located on Union Square in New York City, but we have projects throughout the US, Great Britain, and Europe.
