Mel Schenck is an American architect with over 45 years experience in managing design and construction of large complex planning and building projects. He earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree at Montana State University in 1970 and a Master of Architecture degree at the University of California at Berkeley in 1981. Mel began his career managing construction contracts to Vietnamese construction companies for the U.S. Navy in Saigon in 1972. After several years managing architectural projects, Mel managed the operations of KMD Architects, a San Francisco firm with offices in Asia and Central America as well as major cities in the U.S. He returned to Viet Nam in 2006 to direct the master planning for the 325-hectare Vinh Hoi Bay Golf Resort. In addition, he directed the master planning for the 1,250-hectare Northwest Metropolitan Area new town in the Cu Chi District of Ho Chi Minh City, as well as the 165-hectare International Village new town in Cu Chi. Mel is currently researching Vietnamese modernist architecture as well as information-age architecture in preparation for publication of articles and books on these subjects.
