McChesney Architects create unique sculptural interventions, guided by a strong clear vision for a wide range of clients and situations. Each piece is unambiguously engaging, through the material presence of its form-making. Established in 2001 by Ian McChesney, the office has gained recognition for its award winning and highly distinctive cross-disciplinary work embracing architecture, urban design and public art. The office is scaled and structured to ensure consistent design direction and rigorous attention to detail at every stage of a project. A small studio with a big reach, McChesney Architects regularly collaborates with affiliates to support and enrich the delivery of its highly specialised pieces of work.McChesney Architects take a fresh look at every aspect of a project from its outset, and use intuition to distil the essence of each design response. A defining vision evolves instinctively in relation to contextual prompts which amplify inherent site qualities. Proposals are tested and prototyped in relation to the project brief and user requirements to achieve a high degree of precision. We use traditional physical and state of the art computer generated model making to explore form and materiality. Art and technology come together through closely coordinated design, engineering and fabrication processes which emphasize the craft of making, unique to each installation.
