Louis Shell Structures is an engineering firm dedicated to building
collaborative relationships that enhance the overall design process and
elevate the resulting product. We continuously strive for safe,
elegant, and cost-effective structural solutions while always respecting
the unique functional and aesthetic requirements of each project.
We specialize in the analysis and design of structural systems for
commercial, residential, and institutional facilities, as well as the
evaluation, restoration, and adaptive reuse of existing structures
utilizing a broad range of structural components, materials and systems.
Educated as both a structural engineer and architect, Principal and
Founder Louis Shell has over seventeen years of practical experience in
the fields of structural engineering and architecture. He is
knowledgeable in the design and construction of a diverse range of
building types and structural systems, ranging from small award-winning
residential additions to multi-million dollar educational and research
facilities. Mr. Shell has served as an Adjunct Associate
Professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology's College of
Architecture as well as guest critic and facilitator at the University
of Illinois at Chicago's School of Architecture and the School of the
Art Institute of Chicago. Mr. Shell possesses a BS in Civil
Engineering degree from Iowa State University and a MArch degree from
the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is licensed as a Structural
Engineer in Illinois as well as seventeen other states and is a member
of the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois.
