Koichi Takada Architects is a design group that creates organically inspired places so the world can reconnect with a more natural, intuitive and conscious future. Founded in 2008, Koichi Takada Architects is based in Sydney with offices in Doha and Tokyo. The firm is currently working across residential, hotels, restaurants, commercial, and cultural projects in Australia and across the Middle East, Asia, North America and South America.
Principal Koichi Takada is based in Sydney, after living in cities of high urbanisation including Tokyo, New York and London. His experience in those metropolises, where he studied at the School of Architecture at City University of New York and the Architectural Association in London, led him to pledge to create a greener future through design.
How should we live today? It is a complicated question, but our answer is simple. We draw inspiration from nature. By bringing nature’s ancient wisdom to the modern metropolis we amplify enjoyment and satisfaction in our daily lives. Our modern cities are bound in contradictions, so we strive for purity and organic forms. We create powerfully emotive architecture that is sensitive to our surrounds and reflects the human spirit through elegant and thoughtful designs. They are born of a deep empathy and curiosity that is integral to all we do, and pushes our practice forward every day. We also understand the limitations of the earth’s resources, so we practice moderation to help sustain the environment.
We care deeply about our planet and strive to leave it in a better state than we found it. We believe that our sustainable future depends on our strong leadership. We are proudly carbon neutral certified as a practice and we recognise our responsibility towards the environment and the impact on the climate crisis. We are taking active steps to make all our projects completely carbon neutral by 2030. This target requires designing for both net-zero energy in operations and net-zero impact in construction. We constantly educate our of architects and encourage all our clients and partners who can influence the built environment to join us on our mission. We believe a greater connection to the natural world will improve our inner-urban lives so our organic architecture exists in harmony with the earth and the people who live and work on it.
Our designs aim to ‘naturalise’ architecture in the urban environment. We are proud of our awarded experience, but we remain humble and are constantly learning and growing organically. Our curiosity inspires fearless innovation, always in service to improving our planet. Through this approach we turn sustainability from an abstract concept into a positive and restorative experience for the people and places we work with. We are global in reach but local in sensibility, working in harmony with nature to improve the enjoyment of our urban lives and the world around us.
