Hellmuth+Bicknese is a full service architectural design and planning firm dedicated to planning for sustainable development and providing building solutions through high-performance design. Together the two principals, Daniel Hellmuth and Ralph Bicknese bring over 40 years combined experience in educational, government, housing, commercial, retail, transportation, historical renovation and planning projects. The firm has a staff of five professionals experienced in planning, design, production, construction administration, graphics and management. In concert with the project team, we strive to develop projects that not only meet client needs but surpass their expectations, provide lasting value to the community and lead to a sustainable and regenerative way of building. Hellmuth+Bicknese is dedicated to incorporating sustainable design concepts (also called “high-performance” or “green” design) in the way we do business and into every service we provide. We look beyond the basic services most architectural design firms provide and consider the environmental, financial, and human impacts of design decisions to provide realistic and effective solutions to complex problems. For sustainable development, planning for a greener infrastructure can set the stage for more walkable, bikeable, diverse, livable communities and neighborhoods. For green building projects, sustainable design begins in the early planning stage where site selection and building orientation critically affect the future performance of the planned facilities. Issues of energy use, conservation, water use, interconnected natural areas, and stormwater integration all become critical drivers of the planning process in balance with facility program needs and budget considerations. In the facilities themselves, H+B focus on well-controlled daylighting to enhance occupant performance, healthy indoor air quality, energy efficient building envelope and HVAC systems, all designed to promote an energized environment and reduce operating costs. Services include:
> Sustainable Infrastructure Planning
> Facilities Master Planning
> Sustainable Site Design

> Green Interior Design
> Daylighting Analysis

Designing to fit community needs and community context is of considerable importance. In order to foster greater community input and consensus building, H+B often initiates a design charrette early in the design process. The charrette consists of a series of meetings to receive input from concerned constituencies and to explore design solutions to satisfy diverse needs and desires.
