In a world where style and fashion so often trump substance and
longevity, Glen Irani Architects has created an uncompromising
repertoire of custom residential and commercial projects while
maintaining unique, self-defined values.
For the principal architect, Glen Irani, design grows out of the
discovery of and research into it's many intimately related
circumstances - the genius loci of the site and culture, the needs and
desires that drive human experience, the practical and romantic milieu
of the inhabitants' 'worlds'. Ciphering these many factors and their
interrelations provides the foundation for the architect's idea-building
and problem-solving. Out of this process we synthesize a contemporary
architecture of enduring beauty and meaning.
The resolution of the whole artistic expression of a project demands
clarity and universal meaning - both of which motivations are strongly
rooted in the Modern movement and continue to drive contemporary
architecture today. For the architect, artistic expression serves to
exert change upon limiting conventions while broadening human experience
and our perception of the world.
Key to the success of any expression, artistic or otherwise, is
language. A language that seeks to ignore established systems of human
understanding is a language destined to live in a silent world void of
discourse. Conversely, a language that is complicit in the artistic
status quo lacks the ability to incite any exploration or movement.
Architecture cannot afford to be either as it must illucidate
possibility without invalidating the current reality. It must push the
envelope of human experience without overstimulating the senses. It must
shepherd the project's physical and cultural context into a healthy,
optimistic future, innovating our way from any misteps of the present.and longevity, Glen Irani

In terms of environmental
and resource sustainability, for over 20 years Glen Irani Architects has
been researching and implementing strategies that have saved countless
amounts of carbon output and resource usage. Everything from the
foundations to the mechanical systems to the finish systems are
carefully designed to provide a balance of sustainability, longevity and
serviceability.
In addition to these tenets, documenting and constructing our ideas
are both major challenges in our work. At GIA, our documentation and
detailing illustrate with clarity our mastery of the design and logical,
often innovative construction means. Drawings, however, are a means to
an end, which renders the building process an equally critical part of
the architectural process, particularly at the level of detail that we
prescribe. It is a hard-sought phase where ideas are born into the
physical realm through a process of innovative problem-solving,
continuous design analysis and comprehensive technical evaluation. It is
a phase to which we are completely committed to providing our utmost
attention whether it be through our construction division,
Irani/projects, or through our construction administration architectural
services.
What GIA accomplishes would not be possible without the leadership
and personal foundation provided by the principal. Born in Los Angeles,
Glen Irani AIA received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from
California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in 1987. Over the
following eight years he developed his professional skills at the noted
architectural firms of John Lautner, Skidmore Owings & Merrill and
Richard Meier & Partners. In 1995 he founded Glen Irani Architects
with numerous residential, commercial and cultural projects published in
journals and books worldwide since. In 2006 GIA's work was featured at
the Architecture + Design Museum Los Angeles' opening exhibition focused
on emerging architects of Los Angeles. Currently Glen Irani co-teaches
at the UCLA Graduate School of Architecture and heads LEED-Lab, a
research organization for the development of sustainable architectural
technologies .
