The Cavaliere Ristorante Concettuale has received a silver award at A' Design Awards 2022, in Italy and a gold award at Interiors Awards 2022 by BOUSSIAS!
How could another Italian restaurant differentiate itself and stand out from the rest? How do you create a space that has been rendered so many times, in so many ways over the years? What’s new in terms of interior design?
These questions preoccupied us when we undertook to design and build the Cavaliere Ristorante in Nea Smyrni, and we wanted to move the interest from the large square of the area somewhat eccentrically, onto the busy street of El. Venizelou. The answer was one: using the right ingredients, like the ones the chef used to make the best authentic Italian pizza!
So, we received a space with a comfortable enough floor plan to compose the individual sections: reception / bar, dining area (divided into groups with different furniture options and dominant large velvet sofas) and open space kitchen. The layout was designed to create different built-in spaces that connect with each other giving a sense of intimacy.
The traffic flow of the space is defined by the kitchen which is the focal point of the restaurant. And how could it not be when the baking of the steamed pizza in the two specially made ovens lined with gold mosaic, becomes visible from all parts of the restaurant, even by passers-by inviting them inside. We responded positively in this way to the request of our customers, to pass on the message that here great importance is given to the gastronomic experience.
We decided to limit the use of rustic, outdated and self-evident traditional elements and moved in a direction of high aesthetics and finesse given through the multidimensional decoration, utilizing a wide range of materials that we finally consider to have found their place ideally in the space.
The combination of green marble, velvet and wood is underlined by gold metallic decorative elements giving an art deco tone. The large bar is imposing with its pleated lining and impressive metal lighted structure behind it.
We took advantage of many light sources to create a complex play of light and shadow to provide a dramatic feel that emphasizes the architectural lines and prepares for a special overall experience.
The "windows" / showcases with the suspended cheeses and cold cuts are a small ode to the Italian antica salumeria and are one of the few traditional elements in the area.
The dining area has the ability to follow the mood of the weather and be easily conve4rted into an internal courtyard, taking advantage of the natural light due to the ease of opening the roof. This gives the feeling of a small square, like the ones you find in the picturesque towns of the Italian south. With the use of natural and artificial plants and ashes on the roof and scattered in the space, it’s connection inside with outside is strengthened and it transmits a natural fresh aura.
