At Brian Orter Lighting Design we feel that the personality of a building is born at the concept phase. Lighting is integral to the form and function of the structure, which is why design for our clients begins with unique ideas, comprehensive research and agreed-upon goals.Brian Orter was trained as a theatrical lighting designer, and this background has informed all of his projects. In the mid-90's nightclub clients like Club USA, Tunnel and Limelight called upon Orter to bring a theatrical element to their designs. His success with these venues led to restauranteurs and hoteliers in Miami Beach seeking a similar vibe for their spaces. A global network of clients began as Orter married the ideas of theatre to the purposes of commercial work.Orter has worked with some of the most celebrated designers, architects and entrepreneurs of our time including Yabu Pushelberg, Sir Richard Branson, Michael Bloomberg, Chad Oppenheim, David Collins, Ian Schraeger, Hilton, Hyatt, Related, David Rockwell, Perkins Eastman, Andrés Balazs, Phillip Starck, Rolf Seckinger, Kenney Scharf, and the Trump organization. In addition to a celebrated career as a lighting designer, Orter is also an accomplished photographer. Traveling the world with a camera, Orter appreciates where shadows fall and where light stops. Understanding the importance of darkness is just as important as understanding the importance of light. Orter relays, "You should never be scared of a beautiful blackness, for she is light's best friend."The following pages showcase Orter's work over the past 20 years. Enjoy your time with us and thank you.
