Aconcept, the art of exchange and responsibility
Setting up and growing an architectural practice in Evry-Cour- couronnes was the challenge that Frédéric Quevillon set himself when he founded Aconcept some fifteen years ago. It was a bold move, but how can you build these Greater Paris territories wit- hout living in them? Risk-taking and challenge have always been his driving forces, and it‘s clear that success has been on his side: the workshop has grown from two to twenty-five emp- loyees, and over the same period, the order book has diversified: school groups, gymnasiums, theatres, housing, 60% of which are public commissions. In 2023, Frédéric was joined by Auré- lien Tessier as a partner.
This growth is due first and foremost to the commitment of a team. A civic commitment to opening up the Paris metropolitan area to an architectural culture that is still too often denied. From the time he studied at the École Nationale Supérieure d‘Architecture de Paris- Malaquais, the French territory was Frédéric‘s playground, and this ambition has never left him. For Aconcept, it‘s all about bringing po- pular culture and architecture together, first by changing the way we look at things and showing a new curiosity about everyday si- tuations that we might think of as ordinary. Then by transforming these situations through the creation of programmes that are import- ant for community life.
