Since 2003 Thanos Athanasopoulos has been practicing Architecture and
Urban Design in Greece and the United States. Mr Athanasopoulos studied
Architecture at the National Technical University of Athens and at
Harvard University Graduate School of Design (Master in Architecture,
2003. He later worked at the New York - based firm of architect Rafael
Vinoly. Since 2005, Thanos Athanasopoulos’ architectural practice has
been based in Athens, Greece. He has taken over commissions ranging from
private residencies to leisure and retail developments.
Although his designs demonstrate much of the character of contemporary
south European “white” modernism, he has developed an interest in the
innovative use of traditional building materials and construction
methods commonly associated with historical architecture. His latest
designs also explore smooth, geometrically intricate formal and spatial
transitions between the existing urban fabric and the new building that
transcend fragmentation towards more integrated wholes.
