Design Philosophy
The philosophy of the practice is to approach each project without preconceptions, letting the site and the clients needs inform our approach. Since much of our work has been associated
with multinational companies, we regularly face the particularly demanding circumstances, including a strong initial briefing, defined corporate identity, budget an timing.
Our designs respond to the human need for a sense of identity and place.
We achieve this humanizing factor by the connection between interior and exterior spaces and the careful crafting of spatial sequences. Internal spaces are simple yet poetic and external forms
have a sculptural quality that is enhanced by the use of material and the play of light.
The detailing and construction of the buildings is not merely in function of keeping out the elements but also a conscious attempt to exploit the tangible and spiritual quality of each material.
Architectural quality is achieved through the careful use of resources, imaginative design and the connection between the client and design team. It also requires effective communication and the management of the entire design and building process through to completion and the client taking possession of the building and understanding how to best use this major investment.
We have extensive experience working with some of the best design professionals in the world. Our approach is to work closely with the client and design team to ensure that structure and services are fully integrated. This is an important issue in creating the sense of calm and order that we strive to achieve in our designs. We also constantly seek ways of reducing the excessive servicing of our designs to minimise future costs to our clients and our climate.
Project delivery
The practice has considerable experience working on large, complex design projects and has designed and managed projects on a variety of scales including the 56.000 sq m Fairfront
Mixed used in Milan. Larger projects, including master-planning and urban design projects have also been designed, with the most significant being the competition winning biggest mail distribution centre in Italy.
