Ørsted Gardens by Tegnestuen LOKAL is the transformation of a dilapidated apartment building in Frederiksburg, Denmark — an unwelcoming building often referred to as among the ugliest in the neighborhood — into a verdant and visually exciting structure.
Though the project started as an ordinary façade renovation aimed to prevent water from damaging the concrete balconies, it eventually turned into a drastic alteration and reinvention of the building’s semi-private street-facing spaces. As such, Ørsted Gardens adds a series of triangular glass bays to the façade, creating semi-private decks for the individual residents that in turn increase the social coherence of the building.
