Social Architecture in Action: Sordo Madaleno’s Inspiring Designs for Children’s Rehabilitation

Architizer Editors Architizer Editors

When approaching any of the twenty-three Teletón Children’s Rehabilitation Centers (CRITs), designed by Sordo Madaleno since 1999 and located in different cities across Mexico, their presence is immediately recognizable.

A common language with its own identity defines this network of architectural complexes, which aim to create a peaceful and appealing environment for children’s rehabilitation. They draw inspiration from local symbols, incorporating their morphology into the design. Playful forms, geometrical patterns in vibrant colors, well-placed openings for natural lighting, and facades that showcase changing perspectives define their design elements.

The video showcases the daily life of four CRITs, using drone footage and cinematic shots. Its purpose is to juxtapose the stationary forms of the center’s architecture with the energy and dynamism of the children who seek treatment there.
