Not Just for Show: This Shenzhen Garden Exhibit Piece Now Breathes Life into City Spaces

The Vortex, showcased at the 2021 Shenzhen Garden Show, is a low-budget, recyclable garden designed to challenge the traditional life cycle of temporary garden displays.

With a captivating design of two spiral structures, it features 220 prefabricated planters creating a gradient sea of colors, leading visitors into an immersive ‘undersea’ experience with plants representing coral reefs and fabrics mimicking jellyfish. Reflective steel panels and gentle lighting enhance the sensory experience.

Remarkably, post-show, the garden’s modular components were salvaged and repurposed across public spaces, emphasizing sustainability and utility beyond the exhibition.
