Classic to Contemporary: Hear the Story of Penn State Federal House’s Modern Makeover

Architizer Editors Architizer Editors

The Federal House at Penn State Behrend, which is the oldest brick structure in the area, is rejuvenated with a modern addition.

This spacious barn-style extension, connected via a sleek glass bridge, respects and elevates the historic building. Serving as a hub for the Susan Hirt Hagen Center for Community Outreach, the design emphasizes both inclusion and history.

With striking glass walls contrasting the Federal House’s solidity and a roof reminiscent of the old gabled architecture, the facility warmly welcomes visitors with its wood-accented entrance, signaling that this inviting space truly belongs to the community.
