University of Helsinki resides in the very heart of Helsinki´s Empire era center. The old administrative building will be renovated as a New Think Corner, a meeting point for science and citizens. Inviting openness and interaction are at the core of the design. Linking the university buildings together, the renovation aims to complete the dynamics of the city center campus.

The location of the campus area provides a prominent setting for the renovation. The materials of the façade – natural stone and plaster, are chosen to connect Tiedekulma into the surrounding site. Large windows on the street level open up the façade and provide a view to the everyday life at the university.

The new space layout enables various functions in a comprehensive manner. Openings bring all the three floors of Tiedekulma together as a complete entity. A decked inner courtyard forms an informal working and meeting place as well as event forum for various audiences. The second floor is dedicated to both teamwork and independent, quiet working. Office floors from the third to the fifth floor are multifunctional spaces for various types of working. The design also enables functional use of the 6th floor, providing amazing views over the city from the roof terrace.
