The new gallery at Welbeck Abbey in Nottinghamshire, creates a fitting home for one of the UK’s finest private collections. The gallery is set within the limestone walls of a former indoor racing course, with spatial sequences and lighting carefully calibrated to suit the eclectic collection of paintings, tapestries, sculpture and jewellery. A glazed entrance pavilion provides access to the Long Gallery, featuring a dramatic, barrel-vaulted zinc roof. The galleries sequence is terminated by three smaller, more intimate spaces. Walls are clad in handmade Danish brick selected to harmonise with the weathered limestone.
