This clinic are planned as a center of the community of the town. To achieve "Warm transparency", the L-shaped open ceiling space and a facade with a transparency, and the intermediate space, which is not the inside or outside of the building, was set. We hoped this building to become a center of the community by spreading warmth of wood and the communications of the people in the town.
1. Introduction
Conventionally, a hospital tends to be a space that has poor natural color or material due to artificial structure material to improve the functionally and the efficiency . Therefore, patients feel that they are being apart from their daily life. We should consider more comfortable environments where patients can spend stress-free.
2. The three design strategies
I proposed three design strategies on this case.
2-1. The L‐shaped atrium
By planning the L-shaped atrium along the roads, patients can enjoy a sense of space.
The waiting room is provided as a buffer space for connecting the clinic function and society.
2-2. The large wood eaves
The large wood eaves serves as an approach space to welcome patients. Also it creates ambiguous place that is neither interior nor exterior, a concept known in japan as “engawa”.
2-3. Generous use of wood material
A lot of wood material was used to relieve the patient's nervousness.
3. Warm Transparency
This building is planned as a center of the community of the town. To achieve "Warm transparency", we installed the L-shaped open ceiling space the glass facade with transparency, and the generous use of wood materials. We hope this building to become a center of the community in the town by spreading warmth of wood and people’s communications.
