The house is located in a residential area near to the University of Aveiro.
In order to approach the formal language of the university the volume is discreet and compact, coated with a brick façade witch gives it a visual balance and supports the integration into the surrounding.
The volume display creates movement and shadows that enrich the architectural object, ensuring its plastic dimension.
The house has two floors. The most diurnal spaces meet on the ground floor in a free relationship with the outside space, communicating with a green garden and a covered patio.
Thus, the inside face of the allotment is privileged, enriching the outdoor experience and improving the interior spaces.
The second floor houses a more private program: the rooms and a winter room on the eastern side. These spaces share an intimate balcony, result of the dynamic of the volume, enhanced by the texture and color of the facing bricks.
The structural robustness and the thermal comfort are fundamental. So, in this context the choice of the material: Facing Brick Klinker Brown Mondego was inevitable.
This choice of this kind of bricks is due to its aesthetic qualities and performance, but also because this was a familiar material to the promoters that assures theirs expectations for safety and comfort.
It was chosen a middle color, neither too dark nor too light, to convey comfort and balance. Not only for the bricks, but also to the elements in natural aluminum and to the concrete slabs on the floor, allowing the natural and suitable aging of the construction materials.
