Casa D4.
The idea of the home as such can no longer be that of tradition. The aspects that were previously considered important are now less relevant, because it has been understood that the life contained within the house is the most precious thing. The Casa D4 is conceived according to three main strategies.
The place suggests how to build the architecture.
Beyond building a physical object, architecture builds places to live in close relationship with the place. This house was conceived as an open box, capable of intercepting the distant landscape of the Ecuadorian Andes Mountain Range and the city of Loja located in the valley at 2100 masl. Its orientation also allows to permanently take advantage of the solar incidence on both fronts.
The structure is the architecture
The house is conceived as an abstract structural box, supported on four points arranged with a distance of 7.15 m and flown 4.70 m. On the one hand, the elements of the house such as columns, ribbed slabs, diaphragms and handrails - beams are designed to function as counterweights to the flown, highlighting gravity as a universal resource of architecture. At the same time, the transmission of loads to the ground on a minimum of supports, allows to free up space, generate order and a large interior space.
Spatial flexibility as an attribute
The idea of a strictly functional house is out of date. The project was designed as a spatial container capable of housing different functions inside, incorporating two flexible sanitary cores that allow variations and adaptations for future space configurations. The exterior staircase is a key element of the project considering that it could be replicated on the upper floors in order to make the distribution of new uses independent in the other floors such as offices, homes.
