Architects have been struggling for decades to clean up the drop-ceiling plane, so in recent years, the market has been responding with sleek integrated solutions that put lighting and ceiling on the same plane. While those offerings consist of light fixtures that work within the grid to eliminate field-modified cutouts and panels, this system created by two leading brands makes the lighting part of the actual grid for the first time.
Intersection Downlighting is at once an eye-catching and unobtrusive design by Armstrong Ceilings in which USAI Lighting’s CONNECT LED fixtures are placed right at the intersections of the grid and in perfect alignment with the architecture.
The kit includes factory-finished panels notched to accommodate the 4-inch-square intersecting light points, standard square Tegular panels for the rest of the grid, all necessary grid components, snap-in-place one-piece universal housings for the recessed lights, high-profile yokes and the trims.
The latter can accommodate downlight, adjustable or wall wash functions and come in any of three USAI trim styles: BeveLED, SliverLED or True Zero. CONNECT LEDs come in a range of classic white color temperatures (from 2,700 to 3,000 Kelvin), warm-glow dimming in the same temperatures and tunable white light.
Currently, Armstrong is offering the ceiling with its Calla panels, which boast an NRC rating of 0.85 for optimal acoustics and are Class A fire–rated, mold- and mildew-resistant, easy to clean and maintain and recyclable after use.
