Architizer’s coveted A+Award isn’t just a badge of creative distinction, it’s also a beautiful piece of design itself. Winning the trophy represents hours of dedication to a project, and upon holding the actual award, every architect and designer should feel the weight of their success. This year, we’re teaming up with DuPont Surfaces, the official trophy sponsor for the Fifth Annual A+Awards, to create a better, bolder and even more beautiful award than ever before.

DuPont Surfaces will join us in our continued collaboration with Snarkitecture, the Brooklyn-based collaborative art and architecture practice that designed our iconic trophy for last year’s A+Awards. Snarkitecture is a firm well-versed in design at every scale; its diverse portfolio includes everything from popup shops to choreographed performances, not to mention the world’s most surreal manmade “ocean.” For 2017, this innovative studio will be conjuring up a brand-new trophy made entirely out of DuPont’s signature Corian®.

“Neutral Concrete” Corian by DuPont Surfaces

DuPont Surfaces is a strategic business within DuPont, the 215-year-old science-based product and services company committed to creating sustainable solutions in various global industries. Their world-famous Corian is a dynamic solid surfacing material widely used for its superior performance and aesthetic quality, design flexibility, durability and cleanability. For years, architects and designers have incorporated the material in commercial and residential environments through numerous applications including wall cladding, countertops, furniture, lighting fixtures and decorative pieces.

“Dune Prima” Corian by DuPont Surfaces

Corianis an incredibly easy-to-mold material and can be crafted to produce seamless and stunning organic shapes. Architizer will collaborate with Snarkitecture and DuPont to highlight the capabilities of Corian within the trophy’s design, which will include the signature “+” symbol — a sign that represents the exceptional nature of the winning projects. Five special awards will be made from the new 2017 DuPont Corian color palette, while the other 102 awards will be produced with the classic white Corian.

“Weathered Concrete” Corian by DuPont Surfaces

We’re thrilled to partner with a company that has revolutionized the world of interior design through such a beautiful material! Can’t wait to see how Corian®enhances the design? Stay tuned for the A+Award trophy unveiling in April, when we announce our category winners, and we’ll bring you an exclusive on how it’s made.
