India Memoriam: Charles Correa, a pioneer of contemporary architecture in India, has passed away in his home city of Mumbai. The 84-year-old RIBA Gold Medal recipient was known for landmark buildings such as the British Council in Delhi and Jawahar Kala Kendra and was named “India’s greatest architect” in 1984.

When in Rome: Daniel Libeskind has unveiled proposals for a trio of commercial skyscrapers at the heart of a planned business hub in the Italian capital. The three towers, displaying the Polish-American architect’s signature deconstructivist style, will stand alongside Dan Meis’s planned Stadio della Roma — set to open in 2016.
Designs Down Under: Zaha Hadid has revealed designs for a pair of condominiums on Australia’s Gold Coast. According to the architect, each tower is designed “as if it were an organic living form, with sinuous lines interlacing upwards from a tapered base.” Astute readers may notice some similarities between this and Hadid’s other proposal for Oz, a trio of fluted apartment buildings planned for Brisbane …

The Doors of Perception: Uber-prolific Japanese designers Nendo have released a special edition set of seven unusual timber doors to celebrate the 70th anniversary of manufacturer Abe Koygo. The multifunctional designs include “Wall,” which features picture frames and integral shelving, and “Baby,” which includes an integrated mini-door for children.
Microsoft Magic: If you’re into computer modelling and/or gaming, you will no doubt have been following this year’s blockbuster launches at the E3 Expo. Microsoft previewed technology something that will get architectural modelers particularly excited — a holographic version of Minecraft that presents you with a 3D version of your pixelated kingdom on any flat surface!
