Firms and projects of all sizes, locations and types are eligible for entry, with an incredible 188 A+Awards available across all architectural typologies and concept categories. Entries are judged by 250+ creative thought leaders from fields as diverse as fashion, publishing, product design, real estate, technology, and business, reflecting the wide variety of fields that are influenced and impacted by the craft of architecture and construction.
Architecture for a Changing World
In 2021, the A+Awards will throw the spotlight on architects designing for our rapidly changing world. The world around us never stops evolving, but in 2020, the rate of change accelerated on all fronts. Our environment, our social landscape and our way of life was upended, amplifying existing issues and causing new challenges to emerge across the globe.
For architects, this meant reexamining everything we thought we knew. How do people balance work and life during a pandemic? How can public space facilitate safe and meaningful social activism? How can architecture best serve communities in the face of extreme climatic conditions? For the world’s best designers, these immense challenges bring with them rich opportunities for innovation.
Pioneering architecture is not just a thing of great beauty — it has the capacity to transform society, making it more resilient, more empowered, and more prepared for the challenges to come. The adaptability and dynamism of architects has never been more crucial, and the 9th Annual A+Awards will reward firms that are highly responsive to our contemporary world.

Important Changes to the A+Awards for 2021
We updated and improved our entry system for this year’s A+Awards program, making it easier than ever for participants to get their submissions completed. While the entry process itself remains largely the same, there a few updates to be aware of:
1. Exciting new categories to reflecting our changing world
In order to best reflect emerging architectural trends and recognize projects of all types, we’ve introduced the following categories, providing eligible architecture and design firms with more ways to win this year:
- Cultural & Expo Centers
- Hospitals & Healthcare Centers
- Private House (XS <1000 sq ft)
- Public Housing
- Small and Large Residential Interiors
- Small and Large Restaurants
- Architecture +Environment
- Architecture +Health
- Architecture +Low Cost Design
- Architecture +New Technology

2. A+Product Awards to launch in Spring 2021 as a standalone program
For building product manufacturers, big news: The A+Product Awards program will relaunch as a standalone program later this year, and will have its own dedicated timeline for submitting entries beginning in spring. This gives the world’s best architects and the most innovative building product manufacturers their own dedicated program, increasing recognition and exposure for all. 3. New Extended Entry Period and One-Click Entry
This year, there are three distinct entry periods for architectural projects, each with corresponding entry fees. The Early Entry Period runs from now until January 29th, followed by the Main Entry Period until March 12th, and finally the Late Entry Period, which runs until April 23rd. The earlier you submit your entries, the more you save, so we recommend completing your submissions as soon as possible. We’ve also added the option to create an entry directly from your project page, so it’s never been easier to submit! Make 2021 Your Year!
The A+Awards competition is truly democratic, with free and fair voting by both the public and the jury offering up two chances to win in each category. There’s the Juror’s Choice Award, which is awarded based on votes cast by our amazing list of jurors. Then there’s the Popular Choice Award, which is open to everyone and decided by hundreds of thousands of online votes. Each of these awards gives every designer an equal opportunity to earn recognition, no matter how big or small their firm is, what type of architecture they specialize in, or where in the world they are located.
The A+Awards program constitutes one of the industry’s foremost ways of gaining wide-spread recognition for incredible design. This is your chance to give your work the spotlight it deserves, so don’t hesitate: Register and submit your entry before March 12th, 2021 to be in the running.
